Lord Murugan statue infront of Batu caves, largest Hindu shrine in Malaysia.Malaysian Government apologised for the demolition of a Hindu temple during Deepavali celebrations last year. This incident was the main reason for the current unrest among the ethnic Indian community which accounts for 8 to 12 % of the Malaysian population. After inaugurating the MIC's (Malaysian Indian Congress) special convention, Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said, "We are very sorry for demolition of the Hindu temple in Klang last year and such events wont be repeated". He added, "The government would make sure proper ways while relocating temples that have been built without authorisation". It is estimated that there are 24,000 temples in Malaysia.
