Chennai Airport's main Runway where AI express Flight taking offThe Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel presented the proposal of Rs.1800 worth Chennai Airport's upgradation plan to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi during their recent meeting in New Delhi. For that Mr.Patel is coming to Chennai next month to give an elaborated presentation. The Chennai Airport's modernisation and is going to be done on the 1,069.99 acres of land available on the Kolapakkam and Manapakkam areas adjoining the airport.
Besides Mr.Patel assured Mr.
Karunanidhi that the
upgradation works in
Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy and Thoothukudi airports would be carried out soon. While in the case of Madurai and
Trichy airports, there is no problem in the land acquisition. But in the Coimbatore Airport expansion plan, people living in adjoining areas opposed it as the expansion move would directly lead to the displacement of over 5000 people and they suggested the airport authorities to acquire the government
poramboke lands of more than 1000 acres on the opposite site of the runway for the expansion. The
AAI is now considering this suggestion.

Karunanidhi has failed his promise of mandating Tamil annoucments in Tamil Nadu aiports and flights. He has also provided reservation in TN for staff who fail to know Tamil.
His biggest achievment is stoppage of Tamil annoucement is Chennai domestic airports.
What can you expect from a person who has no shame who pretends he loves Tamil but will recite Hindi poems for his personal gain.
